YEAR 5
The Claw
The Challenge: Design and build a device that extends your reach to grab and pick up blocks. Students were given drawings of example designs, a range of materials and 90 minutes to build their devices. Here is some footage of the competition.

At Doncaster Gardens Primary School we use 3D Printers to develop students' creativity and design skills. Students learn to use CAD software packages such as Tinkercad and Sketchup to create 3D models to meet certain design criteria. They are then able to print their models in ABS plastic to test and refine their design. Printing a physical object is incredibly engaging but also builds higher order thinking skills in students as they critically evaluate their own work and make changes to their design to improve it.
